NO RECESSION AT THE PROM!

The Decker family recently enjoyed our first-time prom experience. As our first born made preparation for this rite of passage into teenage culture, my wife and I watched anxiously as the day approached. Then much like Christmas morning, a wedding, a theatrical performance or a ride at the theme park - the days and weeks of anticipation were culminated in the celebration of a single evening. It’s at that point that you evaluate your investment. The tux is returned, the dress is packed away and the flowers are fading…BUT….the pictures are being shared, the memories linger and the friendships promise to be forever.

It’s interesting to me the investments we make of our time, talent and resources into things that seem fleeting. We weigh their values not by their duration but by their durability. Is the eternal value of this moment worth all that I am giving it? That is something that each of us must determine not only for the proms in life, but for each decision that demands our time and energies.

My hope and prayer is that I will continue to make wise investments…and I believe those are the ones made in the people we spend our lives with. May the worthwhile value that someone saw in me be transferred to the next person. Is every “Once In A Lifetime” opportunity a priceless endeavor to be grasped?

True, there is no recession at the prom…but then again, the economy of friendship is booming!
