SEPTEMBER 9th

The morning of September 9, 1994 was nothing spectacular. We awoke to a unique blend of fairly traditional Christmas music blaring from the clock radio. My wife loaded up the mini-van with an infant and a preschooler to drop them off at the babysitters while she headed off to teach kindergarten. Meanwhile, I headed north to downtown for what was to be the climax of a long struggle. After months of litigation and years of preparation, this was the day that everything came together.

Shortly after lunch on that Friday afternoon a reasonable gathering of ministers, lay leaders, businessmen, friends and family joined together in the lobby at 1249 Trade Street. After a time of prayer, testimonies, tears and commitment, the switch was flipped, the station was identified and programming began on the Triad’s first new frequency in over a decade. WBFJ-FM was born!

15 years – we commemorate today, we celebrate all month, and we thank God continually. I’m sure much has changed in each or our families over the past 15 years. That mini-van is long gone, the babysitter is now with the Lord, that kindergarten class is on the other side of their college education. In fact, the preschooler is now a freshman in college himself and the infant in the car seat is a few months from her own drivers’ license.
We don’t know where the next 15 years will take us, but we know Who will take us there
