ROAD TRIP

It’s 10 minutes to school (20 on the Morning Car Pool), 15 minutes to church, 25 to work…give-or-take an hour to the grandparents, 4 hours to the beach and about 7 hours to take the college kid to Kentucky.

The interesting part in it all is how my body automatically conditions to the ride. There are days that the car pool ride seems almost as extensive as going to grandma’s house. The longer trips are often more bearable because it seems that my system adjusts to the task.

Today is the first day of school for most students in the Triad. This year’s journey has just begun. The next 180 days (179 now) seem like an eternity. However, every parent who has been around the school block a couple times will tell you how fast 180 x 13 really is…

What excites the soul is that despite the days that drag into infinity contrasted with the weeks that fly by, we are assured that indeed we have been conditioned for the duration of the journey. The length of some our journeys resemble a ride to work while others are a cross-country trek. Even so, our steps are planned and our days are numbered by the One who started us on this journey to begin with…let’s enjoy the ride!
